Door Handles in the Village of Rye

I was captivated by some of the door handles in the village of Rye. Here’s a few I photographed.

About Don

I love life. Sometimes it makes sense, other times not. Discerning its underlying patterns and beauty always provides great reward and meaning and is a passion I ineptly follow. I feel deeply attached to nature and love the sea with its distinct moods and colour and find walking along its beaches wonderfully inspiring. Writing, sketching and photography is a sheer joy for me and the blog is one of the places I am able to express these pursuits.

  1. Ah, the details. That’s where the charm lies, isn’t it?

I love the first ~ it reminds me of Scrooge’s door knocker in A Christmas Carol . . . right before it turned into Marley’s ghost.

  4. One of my favorite museum posters is of 100 doors from all over the world. You’ve added another terrific slant: door handles. Excellent, Don. I like them all, but the fish is my favorite.

  6. How inspiring! Why do we allow our doors to have simple faces when we could choose something with impact like these? Love it! Thanks Don. Cheers, Gina

A few hundred more shots like these, Don, an you’d have yourself a terrific one man gallery show. You could call it ‘Getting A Handle On Life’. Good shtufffs.

Door knobs of interest such as these, much more pleasing an inviting to greet a visitor then a sign saying ‘Warning Property Protected by Video Surveillance’.

Getting a handle on life – now why I didn’t I think of that. You’re good Calvin, very good. πŸ™‚

That’s how I felt about them – very inviting.

Wonderful shots Don. Reminds me of walking down a narrow cobbled ‘street’ in Madeira where every door and many windows were adorned with fishing themes, some painted, some sketched. I was struck by the love and care that people put into the facade of their homes and am sometimes disturbed that I don’t do more!

Thanks Theo. I find that love and care you speak of so prominent in the English country villages. The aesthetics are quite something to see. It goes beyond the realms of just the functional mind.
