The Lungs Of The City

London Skyline From Brockwell Park 1

Something I admire immensely about London is the beautiful balance that has been achieved between city and nature. It’s a wonderful achievement and such a gift. While walking through a  park I came upon this scene which I felt illustrated the balance so well. I pass it every day on my walk and it has become one of those special places and views I treasure. I can understand why the parks are called the lungs of the city. They are the breath through which the city finds its rest, life and vitality. I must say the scene looks a little different now with the advent of Winter –  still beautiful, but in a different way.

About Don

I love life. Sometimes it makes sense, other times not. Discerning its underlying patterns and beauty always provides great reward and meaning and is a passion I ineptly follow. I feel deeply attached to nature and love the sea with its distinct moods and colour and find walking along its beaches wonderfully inspiring. Writing, sketching and photography is a sheer joy for me and the blog is one of the places I am able to express these pursuits.

So true Don. Those planning folks have foresight and an appreciation of the living breathing and growing land around us.that it has survived the test of time is a testament to how Brits take responsibility for the balance of nature and preserving the past 🙂

Or where the few escape. With 8.5 million beings, green space is simply ‘good medicine’.

Great photo Don. I always like finding these places to escape into the grass and trees, even if just fr a few minutes while visiting a big city.

I avoid cities for the most part . . . preferring to stroll through grounded green. Glad you’re finding spots where nature nurtures you.

Maybe this is why I am so enamored with the idea of London. I suppose you could say I’d like to have my cake and eat it too. This is such a wonderful capture of the balance between nature and city, Don. And, it helps just as much to establish that balance inside. Thanks for sharing.
